Description:
This course will educate ED Staff on their role as related to Uncontrolled Donation After Cardiac Death (UDCD) situations (Condition T). "Condition T" is a program aimed at obtaining donor organs from deceased emergency department patients after failed resuscitative attempts. According to the Condition T process, when efforts to revive patients fail, emergency department staff per routine contact the local organ recovery organization to determine whether the patient has a positive donor designation status. If so, family members are notified while the Condition T is activated. A team separate from the professionals that attempted to resuscitate the patient are summoned to prepare the cadaver so that it is possible to recover the abdominal organs.

This course will define Condition T and explain why it is ethical and important. It will address the legal and ethical issues related to:

  • donor status,
  • non-involvement of the clinical team,
  • family visitation, and
  • the potential family and public response.

It will ensure that the ED Staff are fully educated in their role in pre-mortem care, post mortem identification and Condition T triggering, movement of the cadaver to the Condition T room, and the expectations for time in the ED.

This course represents a Competency for ED Staff. It is required upon hire and for annual updates.

Note:
When you register for a class you will be prompted to login. If you do not have a Condition T user account, follow the instructions on the login screen to create an account. You can then register for a class after the account creation process is complete.
